Adding a Retirement Plan (401(k), SIMPLE IRA, or State-Mandated Plan)

If you’ve recently added a 401(k), SIMPLE IRA, or state-mandated retirement plan, there are a few required steps to ensure payroll deductions and contribution limits are handled correctly.

Step 1: Contact Your Payroll Specialist

Once your retirement plan has been established, please reach out to your assigned Green Leaf payroll specialist and request that retirement deduction codes be added to your payroll.

When submitting your request, please include:

  • Confirmation that a retirement plan has been added

  • A copy of your Summary Plan Description (SPD), if available

Providing the SPD allows our team to accurately align deductions, limits, and any employer matching rules with your plan.

Step 2: Green Leaf Configuration

After your request is received, your payroll specialist will:
  • Activate the appropriate retirement deduction codes

  • Create and assign the required retirement profile

  • Configure contribution limits and employer matching (if applicable)

Once the retirement profile is in place:

  • The system will automatically track contribution limits

  • The retirement profile will be automatically assigned to all new hires going forward

No additional setup is required for future employees unless your plan details change.
